Darcy Stamp at TEDxYYC 2017
I'm very excited to share about my experience speaking at TEDxYYC 2017's recent event in Calgary, AB on June 23! I joined harpist, singer & storyteller Jeff Stockton and guitarist Carl Janzen (you might recognize him from my 'Full Circle' video) to discuss storytelling through musical collaboration!
Jeff Stockton is a harpist, singer and storyteller with a focus on Celtic heritage and spirituality. Originally from Watervalley, Jeff is an award-winning recording artist and veteran performer of 20 years on national and international stages.
Carl Janzen is a professional guitarist, versed in a diverse array of musical genres and instruments including bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele and 5-string banjo. A graduate of Mount Royal University, Carl’s musical journey spans over a decade in performing and collaborations on Juno-nominated recordings.
The event, held at Calgary's Jack Singer Concert Hall, welcomed speakers from all corners of Technology, Entertainment and Design. In honour of #Canada150, this year’s TEDxYYC event celebrated Canadiana and featured a collection of big thinkers, action takers, courageous innovators, trailblazers and brave artists from across our nation.
What an honor to be included! Over 1000 people attended our event as we shared the power of song and story with string-based instruments – the harp, the violin and the guitar.
The performance was largely improvised during the story dialogue - a sweet story about a farmer and his wife, and we had 3 sections of the story that went into violin interludes. You can watch a short clip that was taken from an audience member:
I hope to share the full performance with you once TEDxYYC is able to publish it on their sites!
