Happy New Year!

I hope everyone is rockin' to start 2018! I jumped right into the new year with a show New Years Day at the Calgary Ranchmen's Club. Here's a fun little caricature done by an artist that was at the event!

I thought I'd give you a quick update on some cool things I've got coming to start the year off.

My new classical crossover single will be released February 20th. It's titled 'Black Magic' and was written by film and television composer, Jordan Gagne. It's an epic, and cinematic violin track. I'm so excited to share it with you!!

I also have some fun shows coming in the next couple months with the Penny Sanborn Trio, the Calgary Jazz Orchestra, and 'Like Shania' (a tribute act for Shania Twain, fronted by Shannon Smith). You can keep an eye on my 'Tour' page for all upcoming events. Hope to see you at an upcoming show!

Top Pop Songs for the Violin

If you follow me on Youtube, you know I like to explore other genres that aren't so typical for the violin, most recently, pop music! It's so neat to take a great pop song and make it for the violin. Check out my 5 favorite pop (and rock) songs - for violin (in no particular order)!

1. "Smooth Criminal" - Michael Jackson cover

2. "All Of Me" - John Legend cover.

3. "Highway to Hell" - AC/DC

4. "Eleanor Rigby" - The Beatles cover

5. "Hallelujah" - Leonard Cohen cover

Upcoming Calgary concert in Benefit of Suicide Prevention

A new show has been added to my calendar, if you've noticed, on September 10 with the Penny Sanborn Trio (think chic european sound), which features myself on violin, an accordion and bassetto. It's not just any show though.

The concert is part of the Mysterious Barricades concert series in support of Suicide Prevention. It’s a national concert that takes place in cities all across Canada like Toronto, Halifax and more, and is streamed one after another for the entire day.

The Trio will be one of the featured groups in the concert in Calgary. There will be musicians performing concerts across Canada, live streamed for 24 hours, from Sunrise on the Atlantic Coast to Sunset on the Pacific Coast. It's such an honor to be a part of such a great cause. The free concert is at one of the premiere music recital facilities in Western Canada: the Rozsa Centre in the Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall at at the University of Calgary.

My Favorite Calgary Wedding Venues in 2017

I have played many weddings in my career, and with that, seen some venues - big and small. But only a few have stood out in my travels. Here are six of my favorite wedding venues in Calgary from this year!

1. Banff Springs

1. Banff Springs.

This place is coined the "Castle of Calgary", and rightly so with the castle feel of Mt. Stephen Hall. The acoustics are incredible for the violin, with stone visuals, cathedral ceilings and stained glass windows. I also love the picturesque views from the Outdoor Terrace.

Check out their wedding brochure.

2. Rouge Restaurant

2. Rouge Restaurant

This gorgeous historic building is in the heart of downtown, with amazing food and a beautiful on-site garden. I really enjoyed playing with my violin trio there. Great for foodies: CBC Canada named it in the top 100 world restaurants in 2010.

3. Azuridge Estate Hotel

3. Azuridge Estate Hotel

With amazing views in Priddis Alberta, this incredibly opulent Estate hotel is just south of Calgary. Their attention to detail is simply impressive - they actually have a Butler school there!

Find out more about them at their website: http://www.azuridgehotel.com/

4. Palliser Hotel

4. Palliser Hotel

The iconic landmark hotel in downtown Calgary has a great Crystal ballroom that I love performing in on the violin. Check out their amazing chandeliers and decor!

5. Water Valley Church

5. Water Valley Church

I had the great honor to perform solo violin in Water Valley Church, which was built in 1936! It is a beautiful setting for an intimate wedding, just Northwest of Calgary in Water Valley, Alberta.

6. Emerald Lake Lodge

6. Emerald Lake Lodge

Although it's in British Columbia, just 2.5 hours west of Calgary, I had to include this place on my list of favorite wedding venues. I was invited to perform with my violin at the View Point Location - which offers amazing views looking out over emerald colored water. It's very secluded. You have to be shuttled over the bridge to get to the island!
